About

Bro. Deric Muhammad

Deric Muhammad believes that man is given power for one reason; to serve others. Muhammad is a Houston-based Activist/Organizer who addresses issues regarding Social Justice, Black Male Development, Police Brutality, Racial Inequality and other critical issues of our time. He prides himself on being an “on the ground watchman” in the fight for Freedom, Justice and Equality.

Deric grew up on the rough and tumble streets of Northeast Houston. At the age of 11 his father died and his mother struggled with an addiction to drugs. Deric was raised in an environment where drugs, gangs violence, prostitution, police brutality and other “social cancers” were prominent. This is important to know, because it verifies that Muhammad addresses these issues based on vast knowledge and personal experience.

In 2009, he released a critically-accclaimed documentary entitled “Raising Boys: Tips for Single Moms” that highlighted the plight of single mothers raising sons. In 2013 he launched a Black Male Initiative called Project FORWARD while releasing his first book “A.S.A.P.” (A Street Activist’s Perspective). Muhammad hosts the bi-annual “Smart’n Up” Black Male Summit which addresses the unique needs of Black males growing up in the inner city.

He hosts an annual event “A Day of Encouragement” aimed and uniting and inspiring Black fathers. Muhammad has delivered countless lectures at a host of universities. His voice has been heard on media platforms nationwide and, most importantly, in highways and byways of the streets of America.
